Applications are invited for 2 Postdoctoral Research Fellow positions in Optimization in the School of Mathematics at the University of Edinburgh, United Kingdom.
Start: Fall 2011, Duration: each post for 2 years, Closing date: March 3, 2011
Post 1: The successful applicant will be developing novel first-order optimization algorithms and applying them to solving very large scale problems arising in digital economy. Expertise in the theory and implementation of mathematical optimization techniques is essential. Prior work in the area of modern accelerated gradient methods, sparse optimization, iteration complexity analysis, engineering applications and/or experience with high performance computing constitutes an advantage. The fellow will work closely with Dr Peter Richtarik. [reference # 3014079]
Post 2: The successful applicant will be developing novel matrix-free interior-point algorithms and applying them to solving very large scale problems arising in digital economy. Expertise in the theory and implementation of interior-point methods and prior experience with the development of software for high performance computing platforms are essential. Knowledge of iterative methods of linear algebra and experience in design of suitable pre-conditioners for them would be an advantage. The fellow will work primarily with Prof Jacek Gondzio.
