Ritumeikan University College of Business Administration invites applications for one full-time,
non-tenure track Assistant Professor position as follows:

【Responsibilities】Teaching business administration courses in English to undergraduate students who are predominantly non-native speakers of English. The courses to be taught include “Introduction to Business Administration in English” and other introductory business courses in English. Responsibilities also include development of English language-based business education programs, on-site student supervision of study abroad programs for Ritsumeikan students and other duties that may be assigned by the Dean.

※The period of employment cannot be extended beyond March 31, 2016. Assistant Professors are not eligible for tenure.

① Candidates must possess a Ph.D. in business administration or a related field, or anticipate acquisition of such a degree by March 31, 2011, or be able to demonstrate comparable expertise in the field. Enrollment in graduate school anytime during the above period of employment is not acceptable.
② Candidates must have a good command of English required for the teaching of relevant courses and other responsibilities noted above.
③ Candidates must be capable of communicating in Japanese.
④ Candidates with academic publications in English are desirable.

② Statements of Research/Teaching Achievements 【Use Ritsumeikan University application form.*】
③ Doctoral dissertation or a work of comparable academic worth. Completed doctoral dissertation manuscripts either scheduled for submission to a doctoral degree-awarding institution or pending approval by such an institution will also be acceptable. Three copies required.
Photocopies acceptable.
④ Two other publications also authored by the candidate. Three copies required. Photocopies acceptable.
⑤ Statement of outstanding abilities and distinguished achievements including foreign language proficiency and experiences of studying abroad (in approximately 1,000 words).

① Submission of health examination results is not required at the time of initial application. But candidates who successfully pass faculty interviews will be required to take a health examination and submit its results to Ritsumeikan before the university makes its final employment decision.
② Documents or other materials submitted for application will not be returned. Any personal information submitted for application will be properly dealt with in accordance with Ritsumeikan University regulations and used solely for the purpose of selecting candidates for the announced position.
③ After careful evaluation of submitted documents and other materials, selected candidates will be invited for an interview and may be asked to conduct a simulated lecture or a research presentation.
④ Terms of employment for Assistant Professors at Ritsumeikan University, applicable for the current 2010 Academic Year, are outlined below. They are subject to partial change in 2011 and beyond.
・Annual salary: ¥5,230,000 (tax inclusive)

1) Monthly salary: ¥300,000×12 months
2) Lump-sum payment: ¥1,630,000 (Monthly salary×5.1 months+¥100,000)
・Duration of employment: Five years
Assistant Professors will not be re-appointed or be eligible for tenure. They may volunteer to terminate the contract before its expiration, in which case they are asked to notify the Dean at the earliest possible date.
1) Teaching

Assistant Professors are expected to supervise seminars such as those for freshmen, sophomores and juniors and teach other basic business administration courses in addition to the courses noted above.
The minimum teaching load is three 90-minute courses per week, while the ordinary load is four 90-minute courses per week. Assistant Professors teaching more than three courses per week will be paid an overtime allowance according to the number of additional hours taught.

2) Other duties
Development of English language-based business education programs, supervision of study abroad programs, and other duties assigned by the Dean. In view of the demands on the Assistant Professors’ time resulting from these “other duties,” their teaching load will be adjusted to keep the overall work load within reasonable bounds.

Funding for purchase of books and other academic resources: ¥240,000 per year
Funding for travel: ¥150,000 per year
・Sabbatical opportunity
Assistant Professors are eligible to apply for a half-year sabbatical. Not all Assistant Professors will necessarily be granted a sabbatical, given the competitive selection process for a limited number ofsabbatical opportunities. If and when a sabbatical is granted, Ritsumeikan University will offer funding that will cover part of the travel and other expenses involved.
Other terms of employment will be determined based on rules and regulations of Ritsumeikan University.
